At barely four years old, I started piano lessons with my mother. However, my true callingwas the violin, and at the age of twelve I started violin lessons at the Academy
of Music and Word in Hemiksem.
After completing my studies at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp, I began
teaching violin at the academy in Merksem in 1980 and at the academy
in Deurne in 1982.
In 1988, I obtained the diploma for “A Teacher” Suzuki method violin, awarded
by the ESA (European Suzuki Association).
This mother tongue method focuses on teaching children from a very
young age.
Because I suffered from unnecessary tension in my neck, shoulders and back when playing the violin
and teaching, I realised it was time to recharge my batteries.
My encounter with Mrs. Crissman Taylor, Alexander Technique teacher, affiliated with
the Utrecht Conservatory, who with her “violinist in Balance team” had developed a
more comprehensive approach to solving playing problems,
convinced me to follow the three-year teacher training course at the ATA
(Alexander Technique Academy) in St.-Job. During this training, I gained many new
and useful insights into physical functioning. I can incorporate all these insights into
my violin teaching.
